Las Cruces Sun-News - County official takes on Pearce
LAS CRUCES — Doña Ana County Commissioner Bill McCamley will take on U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce in the 2008 congressional race.
McCamley, a 29-year-old Democrat, announced his candidacy Wednesday to unseat Pearce, a Hobbs Republican who has represented the state's 2nd Congressional District since 2002.
Pearce, 59, who was in Doña Ana County on Wednesday, could not be immediately reached for comment. Jessica Carter, his deputy chief of staff in Washington, D.C., said Pearce was focused on doing the people's work, not looking ahead to the coming election.
