According to the Ohio attorney interviewed in HBO's "Hacking Democracy," who had been part of the recount team put together by the Democrats in preparation of a contested result in the buckeye state, after Kerry conceded the election on national television, he placed a call to the Ohio team and reportedly said his reason for throwing in the towel wasn't just Ohio, but New Mexico, where he said all the optical scan machines were generating Bush votes--even in places where the demographics and polling had put Bush well behind him.
Whether or not Kerry's purported statements during this phone call had any factual basis, we'll never know.
Governor Richardson and Sec. Of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron, denied petitions for a recount by the Green Party Candidate, David Cobb, effectively allowing the would be evidence to be destroyed to be destroyed. It is worth noting that the State Supreme Court effectively ruled at a later date that the the Governor and Secretary of State did have the authority arbitrarily alter the requirements for petitioners seeking recounts.
None the less, when this election is over and before the next one begins, we need more information on exactly what happened in 2004 and why.

I thought this was perhaps the single most shocking revelation of the entire documentary. Why have we not heard about this before?
