Over the weekend the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party of New Mexico nominated current state Legislator, Hector Balderas of Wagon Mound, to replace their embattled nominee for State Auditor, Jeff Armijo.
I like Hector Balderas, but I'm not happy with the State Central Committee's decision.
What I don't like about this situation is that it's another example of a political party in our state changing the rules of the game to meet a political need. In this case, the need is 3 fold:
1) The Democratic Party of New Mexico needs to get Armijo out of the press before his taint mingles with Patricia's and drags her down in the closing weeks of the campaign.
2) Armijo defied the Governor and that's not permitted.
3) The Governor can't hit 65% without a big turnout in the north and that's not going to happen without a candidate from say...Wagon Mound.
Hector is a good guy but I don't think 153 votes from State Central Committee members makes him the nominee of the Democratic Party for Auditor. If so, then the choice of 153 State Central Committee members outweighs that of the 15,908 Democrats who chose Jeff Armijo as their nominee in the primary and the 11,559 who picked Thomas Buckner.
