Just to put Bill Richardson at ease, I have an admission of my own to make; earlier this week I added the category "Richardson Watch" to the site, and in doing so may have given the impression that this site was the capable of keeping up with all the Governor's press. This evening, NewMexicoMatters.blogs.com would like to appologize to its readers for this overstatement. In order to better serve our readers, we're announcing a new initiative to provide you with a better and more comprehensive "Richardson Watch."
The backbone of the new and improved "Richardson Watch" is the constantly updated Google Search for "Governor Bill Richardson" located on the left side of the site. In addition to the added Google Search Feature, NewMexicoMatters will continue provide other relevant information on our state's most prominent Citizen in the form of posts that can be located under the "Richardson Watch" category.
For those of you wondering, "Hey NewMexicoMatters, why the admission?" Well, because upon opening my email this evening I discovered an overwhelming quantity of Bill Richardson related information. As the County Chair of San Juan County was recently quoted as saying in the Farmington Daily Press
Richardson’s national and international profile has helped raise the awareness of New Mexico as a political player.
“That’s put New Mexico on the map. I think it’s been nothing but positive that he’s a national figure and an international figure,” Glass said.
And just like marriage, I guess New Mexico takes Bill Richardson in both sickness and health. The Abqjournal threw me a curve ball with this clever headline "Richardson Threw A Wicked Curveball," which had nothing to do with the Journal's other attention getting website headline "One-Time Prospect Acknowledges Draft Info Wrong." However, CNN didn't pass on the obvious opportunity for a play of words with "Richardson admits throwing curveball." If you haven't read any of the article as of yet, the meat and potatoes seems summed up in the following passage:
In preparing a story earlier this year on Richardson's baseball past, the Journal was unable to confirm in any authoritative record that he had been drafted.
Richardson said he believed that he had been, based on conversations with scouts and other sources, and asked for additional time to find proof.
But in a written statement provided to the Journal last week, he said, "After being notified of the situation (by Toby Smith) and after researching the matter ... I came to the conclusion that I was not drafted by the A's."
"However, as the Journal's reporting should reflect, I was actively scouted by several Major League teams ... "
While at odds with years of published reports, that statement is consistent with Richardson's new autobiography, "Between Worlds: The Making of an American Life."
While there is much to comment on here, the focus of this post is not necessarily the substance of the story, but rather its rapid and wide coverage. As of this posting, this is just a short list of sites that have picked up on the governor's foul pitch.
