5-8. Vacancies in State Offices.
A. A vacancy exists in a state office when a state officer:
1. is removed in accordance with Rule 5-7.
2. ceases to reside in New Mexico.
3. resigns or dies.
4. publicly announces candidacy for state-wide or national office or when the office in question had not been filled initially at the scheduled election.
B. If a vacancy exists in the offices of Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson At-Large, the highest-ranking state officer shall call a meeting of the State Central Committee to fill the vacancy. If a vacancy exists in the office of District Vice-Chairperson, the Chairperson shall call a meeting of State Central Committee members only from the affected Congressional District. If a vacancy exists in the offices of Treasurer or Secretary, the remaining state officers shall fill the vacancy. All elections to fill a vacancy shall be for the unexpired term and shall be held within sixty (60) days of the occurrence of the vacancy.
